MURRIN BRIDGE COMMUNITY CENTRE

In September 2016 I travelled to Murrin Bridge, along with 20 other students, to a town 6hrs west of Sydney, and 10mins away from Lake Cargelligo, with a brief to redesign the town’s community centre in conjunction with the community and the Aboriginal Land Council. My groups concept, The Murrin Bridge Sports Complex, is a design that encompasses community spirit, love of sport and the relationship between the land and people. In unison with the Murrin Bridge community we plan to reignite the town’s existing sport field with a mixture of sporting programs, including NRL, AFL, Touch, cricket and basketball. A relocation of the community centre to the sports field is also in the making, in a bid to establish the sports ground as the central gathering area for the community. The community’s wants and desires is of the utmost importance and from the recent trip to the site in Murrin Bridge, it was easy to observe that sport, relationships and community kinship were key requirements.
